Error saving document: Write error: The file could not be written.

Changed status to "unconfirmed and insufficient info"

Please outline your exact steps and provide a sample document to test.

Take any odt - for example a new document with the word "test" in it - select EXPORT from the file menu. Choose XHTML and export. No problem if you export PDF.

Fails for a substantial document of 15 pages that I need to convert.

I can reproduce the bug.
Open a writer document.
File > Export, then choose XHTML in the File format menu
Error message :
Error saving the document Test:
Write Error
The file could not be written.
Same message with a Calc document.
It doesn't happen in OOo2.1 X11

FYI: when initially posting bugs, do not change the status from "unconfirmed" before others have had a chance to review - "reproducable and unassigned" puts things in a category of low importance and this could have easily slipped past our radar.

This is a NeoOffice bug as it works in OOo2.1 X11

It will be reviewed/assigned by one of the developers now.

Assigning to myself. This will be fixed in the upcoming NeoOffice 2.1 release.

I found that the cause of the problem was our old fix for an similar OpenOffice.org bug. In OOo X11 2.1, Save as MS Office 2003 or Pocket Word/Excel fails when you have Tools :: Options :: OpenOffice.org :: Java set to Java 1.5. We fixed this by making the XML parser bundled with the OOo the default parser.

Doing this fix, of course, caused this bug. So, I have decided to fix this bug by reverting our build to the default OOo code. Note that this will cause the MS Office 2003 or Pocket Word/Excel bug, but since that is an OOo bug and that bug can be avoided by setting Tools :: Options :: NeoOffice :: Java to 1.4.2, I consider that to be an acceptable tradeoff for fixing this bug.

Note that this bug continues to be present in the 2.1 release.

Due to an OpenOffice.org bug, you must set Tools :: Options :: NeoOffice :: Java to 1.5 for the fix in the 2.1 to work.

Yes, I understood that. The Java version in Tools :: Options :: NeoOffice :: Java is 1.5.0_07 - I still get the same error.

I can't reproduce this bug with the NeoOffice 2.1 that I released last night. Can you answer the following?:

1. What files, if any, are in your /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/lib/endorsed directory. If there are any files (there shouldn't be), your custom XML parser is incompatible with the parser that the OOo code expects.

2. Attach a sample file that will not save as XHTML so that I can see if it works OK in OOo X11 2.1.

1. No, the directory is empty.

2. Any file has the same problem - create a new writer document with the word "test" in it - export returns the same results.

I deleted the install and did a clean installed, restarted, no change.

I am using OS X 10.49, MacBook Pro - so it is an Intel install.

That's what I used when I was fixing this bug. But sure enough, when I tried it right now, the bug reappeared. Looks like I have more debugging to do on this bug.

I found the cause of this bug and I found that I fixed it and the "Save as MS Office 2003 or Pocket Word/Excel" problems by putting NeoOffice's serializer.jar, xalan.jar, xercesImpl.jar, and xml-apis.jar files at the front of Java's bootstrap classpath.

The fix will be in the first official NeoOffice 2.1 patch.

Ed,

You will need to cvs update makefile and the jvmfwk module and rebuild the jvmfwk module. The makefile change addes sunjavaplugin.dylib to the patch installer build.

I have put the fix in the following test patch. Can you try the following test patch and confirm that the bug is fixed?:

Intel:

I can confirm that the bug is fixed on my system. Thanks. I'd prefer that Ooo generated cleaner code, but it does work :-)

Works for me, and export to LaTeX and BibTex work again.

Thanks Patrick

Added dependency 2291; export to LaTex works with NeoOffice-2.1-patch_0-test_1; as noted here by jgouguenheimdesloy and confirmed by poster of bug 2291

I came across this bug report after running into the same issue with exporting to .tex from .odt after running the "recovering lost disk space" feature on shut down when using FileVault.

Although I have not identified what exactly becomes corrupted, reverted to default, or otherwise modified. This bug will present itself after recovering lost disk space. My work around was deleting the previous copy of NeoOffice and reinstalling and applying the latest patches.
